Pongal | Ven Pongal

Pongal | Ven Pongal (Spicy Pongal) is a popular rice dish in south india which is prepared with rice and moong dal. Usually we have this for breakfasts or evening dinners.
Cooking Time 45 min
Serves 2-3 Persons

Ingredients:
Rice
1 Cup
Moong Dal
¾ Cup
Water
7 - 8 Cups
Salt
To Taste
Seasoning:
Ghee
2 Tbsps
Onion (chopped)
½
Green Chillies
5 to 6
Jeera
1 tsp
Black Pepper(crushed)
1 tsp
Curry leaves
Few
Process:
  • In a pressure cooker add rice, moong dal, salt and water. Close the lid of the cooker and wait for 2 to 3 whistles.
  • Mean while take little ghee in a pan, add jeera, curry leaves, black pepper. Fry for 1 min.
  • Add chopped green chillies and chopped onion. Fry them until they are lightly brown in color.
  • Mix it with rice and dal.
  • Serve hot with Peanut Chutney/any other pickle.
